not so “fast”

What a great opportunity for our youth to draw closer to God than to voluntarily give up food for 30 hours! This might sound insane to many who have not experienced a time of fasting or do not know what it is about.

The word “fast” , or a variation of, occurs no less than 86 times in the NIV Bible. We see many variations of fasting from 1 day or night to 40 days and anything from a complete fast of no food or drink to a partial fast only eliminating certain things. What ever the method they all share a common theme of Christians Looking to God forĀ guidance and comfort.

This weekend we will lock several youth and a few adultsĀ into our chruch for 30 hours of fasting. Water and juice is available but no food or pop. Our purpose is two fold. First what would God have us do with our lives for His service and to His glory, and secondly to raise awareness and money for world vision to feed the hungry of our world. Their research has shown that 13000 kids will die from not having the most basic of the human neccessities, food. That is well over 500 an hour that die each hour of every day. How blessed we truly are in America. stepping it up!!

I recently have been studying as to why there is so much confusion in regards to truth and have been overwhelmed by the “resources” that are available. Its almost comical to see the opinions of some people which proves my point exactly. We need to be able to define truth and have some sort of baseline for all people to subscribe to. If your a Christian the first thought is the Bible but for non Christians who struggle believing that a book written over 4000 years by over 40 authors and flows smoothly without contradiction, they find it hard to trust. {count me as confused}
It seems logical to know that truth is not relative, not random, and certainly not created. Truth in fact is constant, consistent, and discovered. Truth is confirmed by the way something actually is. for example if your favorite flavor of ice cream is chocolate ripple and i say no its chocolate chip that is subjective truth. It can be true for you and true for me. Typically this type of truth is based on feeling or opinion. the other type of truth is objective and is either true or false. Ice Cream cures diabetes. that is either true or false and is based on fact and external of ones feelings and opinions. With that being said, with the proof of the miracles of Christ, the writings of scripture and other documentation it is amazing that some will still try to consider true Biblical Christianity as ice cream when it is so clearly insulin. Search it out and use truth to guide your steps and you’ll undoubtedly see what millions of us already have.
